What Are Healthcare Storage Containers?

Healthcare storage containers are secure, portable steel containers that medical facilities use to store equipment, supplies, records, furniture, and emergency inventory outside the main building. Modified containers can be used for applications that need temperature control or added functionality, based on your specific requirements.

Why Healthcare Facilities Use Storage Containers

When your facility runs out of space, a container adds secure capacity on your own property without a construction project. Here are the most common ways healthcare organizations put them to work.

Medical Supply Overflow

Store PPE, disposable supplies, furnishings, and other non-temperature-sensitive inventory outside the primary facility, so clinical areas stay organized and accessible.

Medical Equipment Storage

Create secure on-site space for beds, wheelchairs, stretchers, carts, and other equipment that is not currently in use but needs to stay close.

Renovation and Expansion Projects

Keep furniture, equipment, and supplies protected while a department or building is renovated, then keep the container for ongoing overflow or return it if you are renting.

Emergency and Disaster Preparedness

Maintain additional emergency supplies and response equipment on-site, ready for surges in demand.

Seasonal or Temporary Storage

Add capacity during temporary increases in inventory or operational demand without committing to permanent space.

Pharmaceutical and Temperature-Sensitive Storage

Containers modified with HVAC capabilities can support certain temperature-sensitive inventory. The right unit, temperature range, and monitoring depend on what you are storing and the requirements that apply to it, so we recommend confirming your compliance needs before you choose.

Records and Administrative Storage

Use a secure container for overflow physical records and administrative materials that are appropriate for storage outside the main building.

“I am very happy with Darrin and his company, the container he sent was beautiful just like he said it would be and was very honest from start to the finish of the transaction. DO NOT HESITATE TO WORK WITH THIS COMPANY!!! Thanks for all the great service and it was a pleasure.” — Joe H.

Every type of facility uses storage differently. These are the applications we see most often.

Pharmacies

Pharmacies use containers for inventory overflow, secure storage, and temperature-sensitive products when properly modified.

Laboratories and Research Facilities

Labs use containers for equipment, research materials, temperature-sensitive materials, and secure staging and storage.

Nursing and Long-Term Care Facilities

Long-term care facilities use containers for mobility equipment, furniture, and supplies, plus storage during renovation or expansion projects.

Pharmaceutical and Life Sciences Companies

Life sciences companies use containers for equipment, packaging and material staging, inventory overflow, and temperature-controlled applications.

Choose the Right Container for Your Application

Our sales team will help you match the container to what you are storing, how much of it you have, and how often you need access.

Standard Storage Containers

Standard containers are the right fit for medical supplies, equipment, furniture, PPE, and general inventory. They are available in 10-foot, 20-foot, and 40-foot sizes, new or used.

High-Cube Containers

A 40-foot high cube container adds about a foot of vertical space, which helps when you are installing shelving, storing tall equipment, or organizing bulk supplies for easier access.

Modified Containers

When your operation needs more than basic storage, we can modify a container you purchase with electrical, lighting, heating and cooling, vents, lockboxes, and interior finishing. Modifications are available on purchased containers only and are not available on rentals.

Should You Rent or Buy a Healthcare Storage Container?

Buying is the right choice for most healthcare facilities, because storage needs tend to outlast the project that created them. Rentals work well when the need is clearly temporary. Here is how the decision usually breaks down.

Buy a container when you need long-term storage, permanent on-site capacity, ongoing or repeated use, or a modified container. Modifications are available on purchases only.

Rent a container when you need short-term renovation storage, temporary overflow, or a short-term emergency response. Rentals are available in New Jersey only.

The right option depends on your project duration, available space, budget and expected future storage needs. If you’re not sure, tell us your needs, and we can help you compare the two.

Customize a Container for Your Facility

Standard containers work for most overflow storage, but some healthcare operations need more. When you purchase a container from Jake Containers, we can modify it to fit your intended application and specifications. Modifications are not available on rentals.

Heating and Cooling

HVAC units to condition the interior for your application.

Electrical and Lighting

Interior lighting and power for working inside the container.

Insulation

Added thermal protection against outdoor temperature swings.

Additional Doors

Extra access points for easier loading and workflow.

Vents

Added airflow and ventilation for appropriate applications.

Security Lockboxes

Protection for locks and added security at the door.

Shelving and Interior Finishing

Organized, accessible storage built around what you are storing.

Custom Paint and Branding

Your facility colors and logo on the exterior.

Modifications are designed around your application and specifications. They do not automatically make a container suitable for clinical treatment, pharmaceutical storage, or any regulated use, so confirm the requirements that apply to your facility before you finalize a design.

“Great service and communication throughout the whole process. This is the 3rd container I have purchased from Jake’s. This was customized to our exact specs adding 2 8ft roll up doors and came out great!” — David M.

Why Use Containers Instead of Building More Permanent Storage?

Fast Deployment

Add storage without waiting on permits, contractors, and a construction schedule. We can deliver in as little as 48 hours, depending on inventory and location.

On-Site Convenience

Keep frequently needed equipment and supplies close to your facility instead of paying for off-site storage.

Security

Steel construction and locking systems give you a secure storage environment on your own property.

Weather Protection

Protect appropriate supplies and equipment from rain, snow, and outdoor exposure.

Flexible Capacity

Add containers as your needs grow. If you rent, return them when you no longer need them.

Cost Considerations

Compare the cost of container capacity with the cost of building or leasing permanent storage space. For many facilities, containers cost far less and are available sooner.

“Great experience with Jake Container. The Slate Grey 40-yard container was in very good condition—clean, solid, and exactly as described. Delivery was smooth and on time, and the container worked perfectly for our needs. I’d definitely recommend Jake’s Container for quality equipment and reliable service.” — Peretz C.

Healthcare Storage Container FAQs

Healthcare facilities commonly store PPE, disposable supplies, furniture, equipment that is not in use, emergency preparedness inventory, and appropriate physical records and administrative materials. Containers modified with HVAC functionality can be considered for mobile clinics or temperature-sensitive storage. Anything with specific storage requirements should be reviewed against the rules that apply to your facility before you choose a container.

Yes. Jake Containers rents storage containers to commercial customers in New Jersey, which works well for renovation projects, departmental moves, temporary overflow, and short-term emergency needs. If you need storage long-term or a modified container, buying is usually the better value, and modifications are available only on purchased containers.

Yes, heating and cooling modifications can be added to a container you purchase. Which option is right depends on your application and temperature requirements. No container is automatically suitable for regulated use, so confirm the requirements that apply to you before you decide.

Yes. Containers you purchase from Jake Containers can be modified with electrical, lighting, heating and cooling, insulation, vents, additional doors, lockboxes, shelving, interior finishing, and custom paint and branding. Modifications are designed around your application and specifications.

Most healthcare customers choose a 10-foot, 20-foot or 40-foot container. A 20-foot container suits smaller sites and moderate overflow, while a 40-foot container offers more capacity, and a 40-foot high cube adds vertical space for shelving and tall equipment. Available space, access, and how much you need to store should drive the decision, and our team can help you size it.

Yes. We deliver containers directly to hospitals, clinics, pharmacies, labs, and other healthcare sites across the tri-state area, and in New Jersey for rentals. Delivery requires level, firm ground and clear access for the truck. We review your site with you in advance, and delivery can happen in as little as 48 hours, depending on inventory and location.

Yes. Steel construction and locking systems give you a secure storage environment on your own property. For added protection, purchased containers can be fitted with lockboxes that shield the lock from tampering. Let us know your security requirements when you request a quote, and we will recommend the right setup.

Yes, and this is one of the most common healthcare uses. Containers hold furniture, equipment, and supplies while departments or buildings are renovated. If the work has a clear end date, a New Jersey rental may be the better fit. If you expect ongoing overflow after the project, buying often makes more sense.

Cost depends on several variables rather than a single number: container size, new or used condition, rental or purchase, modifications, delivery distance, and site requirements. We offer a price match guarantee and no hidden fees. Request a quote with your details, and we’ll give you clear pricing.
